An expert on American politics and policy, he is the author or co-author of more than a half-dozen books, numerous journal articles, and a wide range of popular writings. He is a regular policy advisor and expert commentator known for his writings on health policy, especially his development of the so-called public option. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Academy of Political and Social Science, he received the Robert Ball Award of the National Academy of Social Insurance in 2020.

Sue Hassmiller is a national leader in nursing, health equity and leadership development. During 25 years at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), she led the Foundation’s nursing strategies. As Senior Scholar-In-Residence/Senior Adviser to the President at the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), she helped lead two landmark reports on the Future of Nursing. To ensure implementation of the report recommendations, she established the Campaign for Action, a nationwide initiative led by AARP, the AARP Foundation, and RWJF. Previously, Hassmiller worked in public health settings at the local and state levels and at the Health Resources and Services Administration. Hassmiller has held leadership positions in several prominent health care organizations and sits on other advisory committees and boards. She is a Hudson/ICF certified Executive/Leadership Coach and Founder and Principal of Sulu Coaching and Consulting (www.sulucoaching.com).

Dr. Danielle McCamey, DNP, ACNP-BC, FCCP, is an Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean for Clinical Practice & Relationships at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. She is also the founder, CEO, and president of DNPs of Color, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit national organization that builds community and creates opportunities for nurses of color through networking, mentorship, and advocacy to increase diversity in doctoral studies, clinical practice, and leadership. She has been in nursing for nearly 20 years and acute care advanced practice for over a decade. Her interests include diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), health inequities and social and structural determinants of health. She is a thought leader who has been sought out for interviews and podcasts to share her expertise in creating communities that foster innovation, collaboration, and transformational change to advance the nursing profession.

State Senator Kristin Roers (Republican) was elected in 2018 to represent District 27, located in Fargo, ND. Kristin is a nurse, a healthcare administrator, and a policy leader. Raised in South Dakota, Kristin earned a degree in Economics before working in Human Resources in the Twin Cities area. After the economic downturn following 9/11, Kristin returned to school in South Dakota for a bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Returning to the Twin Cities area she worked in Medical Surgical and Oncology nursing, pursued a master’s degree in nursing administration and began her work in nursing management.
In 2011, Kristin had the opportunity to move to North Dakota to work for the largest rural health system in the US. Working in nursing leadership, Kristin grew her skills in project management and policy development. Kristin also served as the lobbyist for the North Dakota Nurses Association for 2 legislative sessions, then ran for office in 2018 when she was elected to the State Senate. Previously, Kristin served as the Vice Chair for the Health and Human Services committee. After her reelection in 2022, she had been elected the Senate Majority Caucus Leader and will be the Chair of the Senate State & Local Governments Committee in the upcoming session.

As associate director of the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), Jean Sinzdak is responsible for developing strategic initiatives and projects, as well as general administrative oversight. An experienced program director with a background in women’s leadership development and civic engagement initiatives, she directs CAWP's Program for Women Public Officials, which aims to increase the impact of women in politics and make political women's leadership more effective through national, regional, and local events and programs for women officeholders, candidates, and campaign operatives. Prior to joining CAWP, she served as director of outreach and communications at the Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) in Washington, DC.

In 1991, as a member of the League of Women Voters (LWV) of Tompkins County, NY, Nancy was an observer of the Ithaca City School District Board of Education. She learned that policy makers don’t always have the background, or commitment, to learn about the issues before them, so she ran for and won a seat on that Board.
Her experience in non-profit administration includes: Current president of the LWV of Maryland, as well as president or LWVMD from 2009-2013 and 2015-2017. Nancy was president of the LWV Montgomery County, MD from 2003-2007. She also serves on the Board of a non-profit that advocates for public transportation. She has been a member of the Maryland Association of Non-Profit Organization’s Policy Council for more than a decade.

Rita Wray, a native of Florence, Alabama, is the Founder & CEO of Wray Enterprises, Inc., a national independent health care consulting firm. Entrepreneur, author and lecturer, her career path has led to a successful marriage of healthcare and business. Formerly Wray held a ten-year gubernatorial appointment as a Deputy Executive Director of the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration, which has primary responsibility for the management of the state’s annual budget and provides asset management for a host of state-owned property. Wray is a nationally recognized consultant/facilitator in the areas of regulatory compliance, risk management, leadership development, organizational effectiveness and strategic planning.
She has held leadership positions in numerous international, national, state and local organizations and is the recipient of varied leadership honors and awards – including National First Vice President National Black Nurses Association, Inc., Chairperson, MS Commission on the Status of Women, Commissioner/Vice Chairperson, Mississippi Federation of Republican Women and Republican National Convention Delegate.
