Nurse Attorneys as Leaders, Advocates, & Legislators

Virtual Event Virtual Event

Representation matters. Diverse voices at policy-making tables lead to public policy that is more representative of the community it serves. However, nursing’s voice is missing from many of those tables. We now know the number of nurses in elected office is decreasing, not increasing. Let’s change that! During this webinar we will discuss the importance of representation in politics, why nurse attorneys are uniquely qualified to run for elected office, and how to get started. There are 3.5 million nurses in the United States and while we won’t all run for office, the millions of us that don’t can help those that do. Learner Objectives Define “representation” in the political context. Identify the skills and expertise that make nurse attorneys uniquely qualified to run for elected office at every level - local, state, or federal. Describe what the participant can do to increase the representation of nurses in elected office. Register here

Political Determinants of Health with Nelson J Dunlap

Virtual Event Virtual Event

As nurses, we’re keenly aware of the social determinants of health - those conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect our health. Perhaps more important are the political determinants of health – the policy choices that led to the SDOH. Join us on September 23rd at 8 pm ET to hear about Political Determinants of Health from Nelson J. Dunlap, JD, VP, Public Policy & External Affairs, School of Global Health at Meharry Medical College. What are PDOH and how are they different from SDOH? How can nurses support PDOH? Please consider donating $10 to support future Healing Politics events.
