U.S. House of Representatives, Virginia’s 2nd District — serving since 2023.
Congresswoman Jen Kiggans brings a distinctive combination of military, healthcare, and legislative experience to Capitol Hill. A Navy veteran, she served for 10 years as a helicopter pilot, flying H-46 and H-3 aircraft and completing two deployments to the Persian Gulf. She later used her GI Bill benefits to pursue a career in nursing, earning her bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University’s Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program.
As a board-certified nurse practitioner, Congresswoman Kiggans cared for older adults and their families in long-term care and private practice settings throughout Virginia Beach and Norfolk. She later served three terms in the Virginia State Senate, where her work included strengthening support for military families and establishing a Military Spouse Liaison role.
Elected to Congress in 2022, she represents Virginia Beach, the Eastern Shore, and portions of Chesapeake and Hampton Roads. She serves on the Armed Services, Veterans’ Affairs, and Natural Resources Committees. She has introduced legislation expanding Medicare coverage for nutrition therapy, improving access to mental healthcare for Medicare beneficiaries, and addressing healthcare workforce shortages.
As a Navy veteran, nurse practitioner, military spouse, and mother of four, Congresswoman Kiggans demonstrates how a lifetime of service can prepare nurses to lead—and to bring an invaluable patient-centered perspective to national policymaking.
