South Dakota State Senate, District 17 — serving since 2023.
Senator Sydney Davis brings a unique combination of healthcare and agricultural expertise to the South Dakota Legislature. A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and cattle producer, she continues her family’s ranching legacy while bringing firsthand knowledge of rural healthcare to public service.
Senator Davis earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from South Dakota State University and her Master of Science from Mount Marty College before building her career as both a nurse anesthetist and rancher. She was first elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 2020 and won election to the state Senate in 2022.
As a legislator, advanced practice registered nurse, rancher, and mother, Senator Davis is a strong advocate for rural communities. Her legislative priorities include agriculture, education, childcare, healthcare access, and strengthening local emergency medical services. Her service demonstrates the value of having nurses in elected office—especially those who understand how healthcare, workforce, and community needs intersect in rural America.
“As a healthcare provider, rancher and parent, I want to use my background to help South Dakota continue to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.”
