A West Haven native, Councilwoman Katherine Tucker was appointed to represent the city’s 7th District in 2022 and elected to the seat in 2023, bringing more than 27 years of nursing experience to local government. She serves as clinical program director for Heart and Vascular Center Outpatient Programs at Yale New Haven Hospital. She earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Nursing from Quinnipiac University and her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Sacred Heart University. Councilwoman Tucker is immediate past president of the Southern Connecticut Black Nurses Association and serves on the National Black Nurses Association’s Board of Directors. She has also led community health initiatives—including the Target: BP program and Barbershop Initiative—that address high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity in partnership with the American Heart Association. In 2023, Councilwoman Tucker was named West Haven’s Black Heritage Citizen of the Year in recognition of her longstanding commitment to community health and civic leadership.
